A Quick Peek into Franchise Life

JOIN THE HUDDLE

H2O Hospitality
, the largest franchisee of Huddle House restaurants, is nearly doubling the number of units it operates. Huddle House is a chain of 24-hour, full-service family restaurants that features “Big House” breakfast platters, lunchtime salads and USDA Choice steak dinners. At Huddle House, you never have to wait for the right time to have your pancakes or your steak for the restaurant is famous for its “any meal, any time” menus. H2O has committed to opening five new restaurant franchises a year for the next four years bringing its grand total of Huddle House locations to 50. Huddle House restaurants have recently undergone significant face-lifts in an effort to make them look like classic diners with lots of polished chrome trim, green-and-white checkerboard tile, red cushioned counter stool seating and mahogany wood table booths.

Company execs say the updated, retro look is helping franchisees see 25 percent to 45 percent increases in their sales. Huddle House is rapidly expanding throughout the Southeastern and Midwestern states.

HAVE YOUR PIZZA AND EAT IT TOO

If you think the current low-carb/no-carb diet craze must be crushing the pizza franchise industry, think again. Several pizza chains are serving up reduced carbohydrate options that actually taste just like good, old-fashioned doughy pizza. Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza, a rapidly growing chain of take-and-bake pizza shops, has introduced the Thin Crust deLITE. This is a reduced carbohydrate and reduced calorie pizza that retains the flavor and freshness of regular pizza and, for those of you tallying points and carbs, a slice of Thin Crust deLITE has between 13 and 15 grams of carbs and between 3 and 5 Weight Watcher's points. Papa Murphy’s is the sixth largest pizza franchise chain in the U.S. and is a pioneer in the take-and-bake Italian food market. Menu items range from the Thin Crust deLITE and specialty lines of pizzas to calzones, lasagnas, cheesy bread and chocolate chip cookie dough. The company already has agreements to open another 80 franchises this year.

GOT A BIG APPETITE FOR RIBS?

If barbequed ribs are something you think about morning, noon and night, then Ragin’ Ribs might just be the franchise you’re looking for. Ragin’ Ribs is one of the latest entries in the fast-casual restaurant category and the stores also offer take-out and home-delivery services in addition to their dine-in options. Ragin' Ribs' menu includes ribs (slathered in Ragin’ Ribs’ own secret sauces), roast chicken (marinated in citrus juices), burgers, wings, sandwiches, salads and vegetables. There's not, however, an ounce of fried food to be found at Ragin’ Ribs. To be a Ragin’ Ribs franchisee you’ve got to be serious about ribs and franchising. Tampa-based Ragin’ Ribs sells exclusive territories with a minimum of five restaurants to be opened by the franchisee within a certain amount of time. The first restaurant must be "up and running" within six months following the signing of the territory franchise agreement. Territory franchising is now available in certain states and in Canada.
