Jani-King
Cleans Up With Hispanic Recruiting
Jani-King International has been
rapidly expanding its franchise empire
over the last several years thanks in
part to an aggressive recruiting plan
targeting Hispanic entrepreneurs. The
Dallas-based cleaning franchise, whose
owners provide services to schools, hospitals,
offices and other commercial locations,
has targeted the majority of its recruiting
efforts towards Spanish language media
outlets. Jani-King officials say
their company offers novice business owners
a great low-cost way to get their franchising
feet wet. Most Jani-King operations
involve franchise fees of less than $8,000
and do not require the franchisee to lease
or buy an office facility for the business.
Jani-King franchises can also function
as part-time enterprises allowing the
franchisee to keep his or her "day
job" until ready to focus solely
on growing and managing the cleaning service.
Affordable
Options
Black Enterprise, an information forum
and resource provider for the African-American
business community, recently released
its annual list of the most affordable
franchise opportunities for black business
owners. The company's study, conducted
by its BE Research division, examined
national franchisors in a variety of industries
and evaluated both the investment required
by the franchisee, the average annual
sales per franchise unit and the number
of black franchise owners within the organization.
Whether business owners are looking for
a $5,000 investment or one that involves
several more zeros, there is an opportunity
for budding black entrepreneurs to break
into the business of franchising.
The
top five businesses that require franchise
fees of less than $50,000 were Soft
Temps, West Sanitation/Aerowest, Tax Centers
of America, OpenWorks, and Liberty
Tax Service. The top franchises in
the $50,000 to $200,000 investment range
were Mini-Tankers USA, Geeks on Call
America, Sign-A-Rama, Express Personnel
Services, and Cottonman Transmission
Services. Entrepreneurs who have more
than $200,000 in their coffers can look
into Total Car Franchising, Ben &
Jerry's, Golden Crust Caribbean Bakery,
Meineke Car Care Centers and Cinnabon.
Incidentally, of the 65 Golden Crust
Caribbean Bakery franchises 64 are
owned by African-American entrepreneurs.
Mucho
Pizza
Pizza Patron, the premier Latino
pizza franchise, is rolling into Arizona
in a grande way. Local restaurateurs Lee
M. Cohn and Lalo Gonzales formed the Grupo
Pizza De Arizona with the intention
of opening 25 Pizza Patron locations
over the next 48 months. According to
Cohn, however, Grupo Pizza has
its eye on eventually launching as many
as 45 Pizza Patron locations in
the Grand Canyon State. Pizza Patron,
which has been in business since 1986,
has been franchising its brand since March.
Headquartered in Garland, Texas, the company
features festive, carryout-only neighborhood
pizza parlors based in predominately Hispanic
or Spanish speaking communities.
