Brief History of Kinderdance®
1979, Carol Kay Harsell was looking for
ways to expand her successful dance studio
business. After consulting with entrepreneur
Bernard Friedman, she expanded the school's
offerings by including a program for very
young students. The latter, however, was
only partially successful. Friedman then
suggested to Harsell that she bring the
classes to the students rather than vice
versa. Within a month she had more than
60 children at a local childcare center
signed up. Within six months she had 30
childcare facilities, as well as the local
school system involved. In 1981 Kinderdance®
was incorporated as a franchisor. Today
there are more than 100 successful franchises
in operation in the U.S., Canada and elsewhere.
